Pieterpad day 5, stage 5: Rolde-Schoonloo

The first dry day today, it was still cold, but the walk was nicely varied along various nature reserves.

First we went to the bicycle repair shop in Rolde for a good rain cape for both of us and a new coat for Gert Jan, the zipper is broken.

In the village are 2 hunebeds, close to each other, this is one of the two.

The first kilometers go via the old route of the Gasselternijveen – Assen railway line, a small piece of track has remained in a road crossing.

We also walk through nature reserves, we enjoy the dry weather and the beautiful views, although the Drenthe landscape can also slope beautifully here and there.

The warning signs in the nature reserves are sometimes a bit confusing …

… clamps placed … protect young wild animals …

The path is always well marked with the Pieterpad signs,

in an alternation of water, the upper reaches of the Drentsche Aa, and nature in budding spring colors.

According to the route description, this is the Markesteen, a large boulder that marked the border of the Marches of Drouwen and Grolloo.

We spend the night in Schoonloo, in an apartment of the Deelderij, nice and luxurious with a private bathroom, living room and bedroom.
