Yesterday, 27th July we arrived in Walvis Bay.
It was a long journey, from half past nine in the morning leaving home until 11:30 the next day at our B & B in the town of Walvis Bay.

There is not much about to tell the trip, apart that planes are always so tight for me with my 2.03 m. And to sleep is quite difficult even though we had an emergency exit seat. Eating was decent, the sweet German white wine that was served by Lufthansa and Air Namibia was well drinkable.
The arrival at Windhoek Airport was surprising to say the least, not because of the terminal itself, the amenities were decent, a little African style, but pretty well finished. But mainly because of the temperature, at home and in Frankfurt temps were 25 + C, here was coldddd, at 5 am when we arrived they said it was -6C, I believe it was not, though I think it is below 0, but if you have to wait five hours in the transit hall in your summer clothes, that is quite cold …
Thankfully there were some restaurants where we could get hot coffee and tea so we were somewhat sheltered by spending time in the warmth of the kitchen.
At 10 o’clock the plane left from Windhoek to Walvis Bay, a scenic flight over sunny Namibia.
Along the way we got some juice and a bag of biltong, dried beef, as a snack. Sonja got an apple ๐

Walvis Bay Airport was also surprising, brand new with all the facilities you would expect from such a regional airport (European standard), super luxury. We were picked up by Ancu, a young man who had offered to pick us up through the 4x4Community forum, super accommodating. He lives and works in Walvis Bay and picked us up just like that, Namibian hospitality.

At half past twelve we were at our B & B, 10de Laan B and B, we had booked a room but got a whole house for the same price! Gorgeous, private kitchen, bathroom, living room with TV and 3 bedrooms. We unpacked our stuff and put them in the spacious closets.
Then we stretched our legs and walked to Sharaf Shipping Agency, they take care of port formalities to import Milady Landy. We were warmly greeted by two ladies who presented us coffee and tea. Our contacts, Capt. Nik and Mandy had lunch. Nik was immediately very welcoming and wanted to know everything about our trip and where we were staying. Mandy took a longer lunch, so we explored the neighborhood and discovered the Pick and Pay to do our shopping. When we returned to the office Mandy was talking with two other overlanders with a Belgian car.
Mandy is a lovely woman, very open and she gives a lot of information that we needed. We agree that we will bring along the papers that we have taken tomorrow.
In the evening we eat a few slices of bread with cheese and a glass of wine, then turn on the television to the movie Ice Age, I fall asleep deliciously when while Sonja still makes an effort to follow the story.
Our bed is very welcome at 19:30, a nice bed with sufficient leg room (as I adjust it a bit).
Today, July 28 is a late sleep in/ resting / talking and discover-day, in other words, the holiday has begun.
This morning we visited Sharaf and we had to search for a computer cable to the laptop that does not appear to charge with the standard cable. Fortunately that was quickly fixed also thanks to Mandy who gave us good advice.
Along the way a coffee at 4orty4ours, with good advice on the clock (dream large).

Later we take a taxi to the port where a boat-library is moored which is open to visitors, unfortunately the access is closed, the boat sails off today …
We then go to the waterfront, a little area where tourist trips are organized and some quaint little bars and restaurants, we have a beer and watch the pelicans chilling.

Such a nice day of nothing …
