Extra outer fabric for the lifting roof

We have made a nice addition to the lifting roof of PSP Expeditioncampers. This red outer cover protects us even better against strong wind and / or precipitation. Especially in snowfall, our mattress was sometimes wet due to melt water against the inner tent, we solved that nicely in this way, thanks to Witte Zeilmakerij in Breda.

During the last trip to Morocco we spent one night in the snow at the top of the Pyrenees. That was a wonderful adventure with a beautiful morning in the snow.

Unfortunately, it also became clear during that night that snow remains on the edge next to the tarpaulin of the lifting roof. That snow will melt against the mattress and the relatively warm duvet on the inside, causing them to become wet (condensation or leakage from the cloth).

Even in strong winds the inner fabric flaps ominously and with rain similar effects occur as with snow.

We have therefore decided to apply an extra outer fabric to maintain a dry and above all comfortable interior space in these extreme conditions. After all, the extra outer fabric also offers an extra layer of air and therefore extra insulation.

The outer fabric is an own design that I carried out together with Witte Zeilmakerij in Breda. I attached an aluminum awning profile on three sides to the top of the roof.

I mounted a luggage rail on the underside of the lifting roof to which the sand ladders can also be attached.

The canvas can thus be slid into the profile on three sides with the roof folded down. Then, when the roof is folded up, the elastic is hooked into the eyes at the bottom.

The canvas has the same color as the car and a window has been added to the back of the side canvas so that we can let in some daylight.
