Today we want to drive from CrocqValley South Luwanga NP to Isoka. In Lundazi we do some shopping and refuel Milady. A few kilometers further, the road to Isoka seems to be very rough! What a surprise;) We notice that it is practically impossible to reach Isoka before dark. Around 5 pm we decide to stop at a small village to spend the night, about 5 km to Kamfutu. This village consists of 5 huts for living and some ‘huts’ for storage. There are children, chickens, pigs and dogs walking around. We seek the chief and it appears that we need to explain with hands and feet what we are intending to do. The knowledge of English of the chief does not go beyond “yes”, “no” and “welcome.”

As unusual as it is for us to stay here so unusual it is for them to see tourists in their village. As we set up our tent, the people don’t know what they see. A real bed on the car, how do you get it done! Both adults and children are very curious and of course, we allow them to climb the stairs and admire our bed. It’s an other world for both parties!
All the time, the kids hang around our car and when we give them a ball, they are very happy and I can join their game.

We also have some cookies and lemonade to share. What a party! For some children, it’s probably the first time they drink lemonade.
We try to communicate with the chief and he tells us that he is building a new house for himself and his family. The bricks are baked by himself and a friend is helping him with the bricklaying.

In the evening, all people gather around the fire to eat ‘nshima’ and ‘spinach’, naturally with the right hand.
In the morning, Gert Jan decides to make pancakes for the whole village. Actually, I think he’s a little crazy, but he just makes them! I put some strawberry jam on the pancakes and give everyone half a pancake. Great to see how everyone enjoys.

After we ‘take up’ our house, we say goodbye and give the chief a contribution to his house. He is very happy and we have spent a safe night in an unusual place.
