Lately, I’ve had to stimulate Milady with a hammer a few times while out and about…
Sometimes, very occasionally, she wouldn’t start, and with a few well-aimed thumps on the starter motor, she’d fire back up. Not a big deal, but if you’re at a gas station and you block the pump, or in the morning by a babbling brook in a deserted valley, it’s still quite nerve-wracking.
All in all, that problem had to be solved. Luckily, last year in Dubai, I had removed the starter motor from the broken diesel engine and taken it with me as a spare. Earlier this week, I had already attempted to replace the starter myself. Unfortunately, that didn’t work because of a rusted bolt with a worn head.

So today we went to a garage, an address provided by Edward, our China Roadtrips guide.

There they could weld a larger nut onto the bolt head and loosen the bolt. Then changing the starter was a routine job.
The garage owner is very interested in our trip and, of course, in our Milady Landy.
