Day 3 of the Pieterpad we start in the city of Groningen with a shopping appointment in the Hema, gloves and thinner socks for Gert Jan and a headband for Sonja’s long hair. When we leave there is still snow from last night.

After shopping, we walk on to today’s starting point, Groningen station, near the Groningen museum with an exhibition about the Stones that is closed due to corona.

Soon we walk out of the city along the Noord Willemskanaal, it is sunny and people are even rowing. A nice walk thanks to the side branches of the canal where several houseboats are located.

The Pieterpad is well signposted along the way, this signpost stands out.

Beyond Haren we go onto the high land with, among other things, the railway yard of Onnen, which I like as a civil engineer.

Nature here becomes more varied and the landscapes frequently alternate.

We do not keep it dry, but luckily the showers are limited to hail and dry snow, which does not get us wet.

When we leave the path at the end, just before Zuidlaren, we find a Groningen hunebed, G1.

We sleep in Zuidlaren with Marian and Peter Schouten, we are warmly welcomed and the tip to the Italian restaurant pizzeria Friuli was great.
