Via Volubilis to Fez

We drive to Volubilis today and then to Fez, today is Eid El Fitr, the end of Ramadan.

We leave in time to avoid the hottest part of the day. The scenery again is breathtakingly beautiful and varied, we make full use of our AWCO (all windows can be opened) because the temperature continues to rise. I seem not to have entered the waypoint Volubilis, but Sonja fortunately realises that in time. A beautiful mountain road tries Milady to the limit, we have to stop to cool her off, partly with a bucket of water from a helpful boy along the way.

Along the way we change the fan connection, the manual switch now puts on high speed mode.

Volubilis we reach first via the Garmin, but it looks very closed off. We decide to go to the nearby hotel and have a drink. They tell us we have to drive around the city and the access is at the other side.

It is quite worthwhile, beautiful mosaics and some reasonably preserved parts of buildings, but it is also very hot, so we decide not to look at everything and just have a drink at the “pub”, Fanta Lemon, 2x Cola light and Oulmes (carbonated water).

We continue to Fez, a small piece of Moroccan toll road between Meknez and Fez, the campsite is close to the toll road, a beautiful entrance and excellent toilet facilities with hot water for Sonja, Saskia and me, Marc is unable to find the hot tap … we have a nice shady spot with a large swimming pool on site. We eat at the on site restaurant, quite tasty, a tajine and other Moroccan delicacies.
