Pieterpad day 7, stage 7: Sleen-Coevorden

Despite the forecasts of rain, we kept it dry again today. Furthermore, the trip was not really boring, but it was monotonous, lands and farms, long straight roads and a gray sky. The variety was created by the people we met and the shared experiences.

Like every day, we meet Ans from Assen again, socializing and laughing together. We meet Leo and Leo again, they walk together yesterday and today, then Leo will continue to finish on April 25 in Maastricht, 4 days before us.

Leo told us today, in response to Sonja’s sore knee, that you can cut the walk in three parts. The first week is mainly physical, with the accompanying inconveniences. The second week is mainly a mental ordeal. The third week provides a spiritual experience. Or as he once heard from a Canadian he walked with: the first week the wings prick against your shoulders from the inside, the second week they come out but you don’t know what to do with them and the third week you can fly.

Spring tries today, but it remains cold.

Fortunately I (Gert Jan ter Haar) see some recognition here and there.

And we are even reminded of where we were last year.

The landscapes remain endless

and as the day goes on our muscles grow tamer and we long more and more for the sparse benches.

Fortunately, there is also time for variety:

the old Jewish cemetery of Dalen
art in the polder
and beautiful cowshed

The last kilometers are tough, with sore feet and knees, so we are happy when we arrive in Coevorden.

Coevorden

We are warmly welcomed at the b & b De Paarse Oase, nice to have a rest.
