‘HOUDOE’ in Kenya

We agreed with Consolata to visit Rambulla on Monday, October 24th. At the petrol station in Ugunja, Consolata gets into our car and we drive to Rambulla along a dirt road. Consolata is the coordinator of Baja foundation in Kenya. I’m sure that some readers know this foundation, it is a foundation, founded by Corrie Musters from Etten-Leur. The primary school in Rambulla is one of the schools founded by Baja.

When we arrive, we are welcomed by the Primary School team. The children, at that time all outside playing, enthusiastically call us and look surprised at Milady Landy.

Unfortunately, the director is absent. We are welcomed by the Deputy Director in the staff room where we get the opportunity to talk to the teachers.

We discuss the education system in Kenya. Besides the general subjects, attention is paid on the importance of hygiene.

The classrooms look neat by African standards and some classrooms have new desks, sponsored by Baja.

Because we visit the school in the last week before summer holidays, most classrooms have been cleaned up. The school also has a library with among others, a collection of English books.

The teachers are very proud of what they achieve at this school. Of course, Baja contributed largely!

Before we leave, the children and the team wish to get pictured.

In the end, as we drive away, we are waved by the children and all together they call:  HOUDOE! Lovely to hear this goodbye greeting outside Brabant!
